Open Letter to Bud Feldcamp USGP Promoter at Glen Helen

Posted: May 18, 2011 in Uncategorized

Dear Bud,
I’d just like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for the great USGP you promoted last weekend at Glen Helen. Sadly I couldn’t be there in person to watch this great spectacle, but like many thousands of fans worldwide, I was glued to Motors TV until the early hours of Monday morning, watching it live.

I guess by now your accountant is probably pulling his hair out when he works out the bottom line and you are scratching your heads as to why a vast majority of the US riders and West Coast factories & many fans boycott the USGP?
With the aligning of AMA & FIM sound/weight limits for 2012, at least that’s another reason they will have to scratch off their excuse book. Perhaps the Cali Moto crowd are spoilt with 4 Supercross rounds Anaheim 1 & 2, Dodgers and San Diego within easy driving distance and a National at Pala. Heck, in what many are calling the best ever SX season, they stayed away from San Diego in droves, just because of a little rain! We are still a niche sport and if everyone doesn’t pull together to make events like yours happen, then the whole sport will suffer.  Imagine a casual spectator rolling up to the GP, a World Championship event, and wondering why there were no Americans in the top 3 in either MX1 or MX2?
Like you, I’m oldschool and can remember with pride when Carlsbad USGP was the highlight of the season, shown nationwide on ABC World wide of Sports TV. The GP community, moto fans worldwide truely appreciate your efforts with the GP and hope your persistance is rewarded with a record crowd when the MXoN is held at Glen Helen.

The new GP track never looked better and created some great racing throughout the field.  Hopefully one day I’ll get out to your facility and be able to buy you a beer and thank you for your passion for Motocross!
